We would not be where we are today without the leadership of Lt. John Tarantini.

  • We built our Fire Station in 2009 thanks to the vision and leadership of Rob Jones (former Pickens County Commission Chairman) and Lanier Swafford (former Dawson County Fire Chief), and to the homeowners within the Wildcat Community who stepped up and contributed one half of the $90K needed to build our station.
  • The next task was to staff the volunteer fire department. The word went out, and many of our neighbors stepped forward, including our leader Lt. John Tarantini. So from the beginning, John has been a driving force, leading, making sure we stayed current in training, mastering the skills to the best of our ability and recruiting new members.
  • The benefits to our mountain community have been substantial – neighbors helping neighbors, being first on scene responding to fires, medical emergencies, and improved ISO rating resulting in lower insurance costs.

Community Challenge – The average age of your volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders is 71. We need new, younger volunteers to keep Station 10 a viable, operating fire department. To find out how you can get involved, email John at: [email protected].
